  5. I cannot say enough just what a fantastic museum this is. Superb ammo collection right through to tanks ,planes etc from ww2 to the Cold War Im lucky enough to go now and again and work on the collection of munitions that belong to my good pal Ben Junier. Ive spent many happy hours grafting in the huge basement not shown to the public. A glimpse of behind the scenes was given in the series Combat Dealers when Bruce met Ben to trade up items. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overloon_War_Museum

  11. Hi All Found a spot with hundreds of these buckles in today. Tracked down a picture of them in situ on a strap, but got no further! So, what is the strap off? The buckles were all found right next to the site of an old ammo dump on a British army training site, so could be off vehicles or ammo boxes......or something else!

  12. Battle of Britain, first saw it a secondary school, was shown on a projector so showing my age Still watch the black and white classics, In Which We Serve, Ice Cold In Alex, The Dambusters, The Cruel Sea. Cross of Iron one of the first war movies I saw from a German perspective, still a good watch. TV Drama series from the late 70's Wings about the early days of the Royal Flying Corps.

  13. A Bridge Too Far, great film and a strange point is that Hardy Kruger who portrayed Major General Ludwig was actually in WW2. His real name was Franz Eberhard August Kruger, and was acting at the age of 15. Aged 16 ,he was conscripted into the WH in 1944. In March 1945 he was again conscripted only this time into 38th SS Division Nibelungen where he saw heavy fighting before being captured by the advancing American Army, he played numerous German wartime roles since then, It must have felt strange for him to wear SS uniform again . His first major acting role in British films was the wartime story, "The one that got away"

  15. Yep. I found a Mauser C96 that I had forgotten all about, not too long ago in one of the vaults. I also found a carton of software from the '80s buried in one of our closets (an original unopened MS Word for the Mac, v1.0 or something like that, in there). However, more items than that are missing in some Black Hole here. They'll probably surface after I've purchased a replacement. _B

  16. Must say most of my favorites tend to be the b/w movies mad post WWII . . . John Mills, Richard Attenborough et all . . . then without a doubt, Bridge Over the River Kawai (sp?). More recently - The Beast - story about a tank and crew adrift in Afghanistan. Not a bad yarn, and good cinematography . . .

  17. Loving all the films/ series mentioned here and some new one's. Personally loved the BBC series, Secret Army and Colditz. Favourite film has got to be A Bridge Too Far......just for the accuracy of Uniforms, vehicles and kit....and there was no large scale massing of American tanks mimicking King Tigers i.e. Battle of the Bulge! Yup, I'm one of those sad cases that nit picks.

  20. Oh yes,i had forgot about the 'Stack' nightmare... Last years show was the quietest i had seen to be honest compared to previous Folkstone shows and Paddock Wood
    1 point
  21. Personally preferred Paddock Wood, easier to get around, seemed to be more stalls. Last years War & Peace was a nightmare getting there due to Operation stack on the M20. The parking was not ideal either, perhaps its just teething problems, hopfully this year will be better

  22. I was looking for a German surcoat that "disappeared" for three years. While cleaning our basement prior to moving, I found an unmarked, taped box. Thought it was a box of tool---nope! It was the surcoat! I never have found my two .45 WWI/II holsters. They must be here somewhere.

  27. We had a similar incident happen here in Canada last year: http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/fake-soldier-franck-gervais-pleads-guilty This moron took time to go to the National War Memorial on our Remembrance Day in full uniform, including medals that were not put in the right order and parts of mis-matched uniforms. He was interviewed as a hero but then real soldiers watching knew something was wrong when they looked at his uniform. I hear he got probation for a year. They should have given him fatigues and shipped him out to Afghanistan instead!! Cheers! Rob

  46. Hi there, I've decided to introduce Cadet rank to the system, this is for all new members and you will stay a cadet until you make 10 posts. You will be unable to sell items or have a gallery, use extra features etc. until you reach the rank of Private. I don't want anyone to feel offended by this, it's just to ensure that people don't join up to sell or whatever without taking part in the community. 10 posts isn't a lot, introduce yourself, comment on an item, tell us about your collection. It's just fairer this way...
