  3. Welcome to the new MCN forum, it's a rehash of our old forum. Unfortunately, I don't have the database sorted yet, but I'm working on it. I MAY be able to get all the old posts back, but I'm not sure yet. Anyway, onwards and upwards. Let's make this the best militaria forum on the web. Any queries, feel free to give me a shout.

  4. Hi All We have just heard that Ofcom have dismissed all the complaints made against World War 2: Battlefield Recovery, the show I was a presenter on that aired on Channel 5 throughout January. This means an awful lot to me. I always knew that neither we nor the producers did anything wrong, but the external regulator has confirmed this and released the following statement..... “We assessed a number of complaints that this series was offensive and disrespectful in its treatment of war graves. We won’t be taking this forward for investigation. “The series dealt effectively with potential audience concerns about the contributors’ methods. It made clear that the specific practices adopted were undertaken within recognised protocols. Scenes that featured human remains were dealt with sensitively, and the contributors appeared visibly moved by their discoveries.” Thanks to all for your support over the past few months. This forum and it's members have always been honest and direct, but at the same time fair and measured in their comments, and I thank you for that. It means a great deal to me to see positive comments about the show, especially from those who watched and enjoyed all four episodes. Kind regards Steve T

  5. Hello my name is David. I live in Michigan. I've been collecting since I was a kid about 44 years now. I'm a hoarder I collect everything that catches my eye. Lately I've been coming up against a huge problem which is fakes! They are getting better and better. In the 70s it was pretty easy spotting. Now you need a group and as a community we all help. Glad to be here if I can help I'll post if not I keep my trap shut. Thank you. Dave

  8. I found a new one this weekend! SS steel buckle marked RZM 155/43 the buckle is almost perfect just barely curved. I had one of mine with me. The silver paint is just a touch off but almost exact. The RZM stamping protrudes out. There are some very slight differences. I wanted to take pictures but the guy grabbed it off the table when I was comparing the real one to his fake. I'm sure he will be around next time I'll start right off taking photos! Anyone else seen these around yet their not the Hungarian made ones anymore these are really good.

  17. As a side note this tunic had been consigned to Peter Whamond of The Collectors Guild fame where it remained for nearly one year, offered at a ridiculously low price....my fault, not Peter's!I noticed that in time BY A MERE CHANCE when I decided that I wanted it back on my collection..too bad collectors pass on pieces like this!

  20. “Pistol Packin’ Mama”....it sold over three million copies to become the largest selling record of World War II, and one of the best sellers of that entire decade. It was very popular amongst US troops, and was well known in Southern Italy and it's cited in a period Neapolitan song;" E levate 'a pistuldà uè / e levate 'a pistuldà, /e pisti pakin mama /e levate 'a pistuldà.

  21. Were all familiar with the M1915 stick Hgr on the left,,, and the M1917 on the right. But have you seen a mid way stick hgr like the one in the middle, I've looked for further info but cant find anything on it. I was told it was a rare piece when I acquired it some years ago, any comments are welcome to help further the quest of knowledge on this one.

  25. And look where he ended up, one of the biggest SCI- FI heroes in TV recorded history. I love Star Wars, I dont mind admitting it. And I,ll fight anyone with my light sabre who dares make disparaging remarks about my Princess Leia . In 1976 a pal of mine in the police was invited to Elstree Studios for a look around, and he took me with him. We were in the bar and I needed the toilet, so I wandered off but got lost. I walked down a corridor and met all the stars of a TV programme who were waiting to go on to a set , I think it was to do with a quiz where they were all in different boxes above and beside each other. But I found myself in a much larger empty studio looking at a very big weird looking spaceship. I did,nt know then that it was the mock up of the Millenium Falcon. It was only when I first saw the film that I realised what it was. I also did,nt realise that a person in the bar was Carrie Fisher. I just saw this really cracking looking young girl having a drink and smoking a ciggie with some other people, I should have asked her out on a date, she could,nt have resisted me, I was too good looking

  34. I think this would be a case of extreme sex starvation, to attempt this one , that and a large pair of boots and a plank tied to your arse and a blind fold, Oh and a bucket, The boots are for when and if the plank breaks so they can pull you out,the blind fold for you as she will more than likely kill you, and the bucket has a duel purpose, you put it on her head and if you survive you use it to pewk in

  38. Yep, same here, its a younger mans game now, let them root around all the stalls trying to find a good deal, its getting harder with so many fakes around, even decent collectors get scammed on occassions. I nearly had a result and a half a few months ago, there was a local jumble sale at an OAPs residence near me, I just called in on the off chance of seeing something , I did, in fact I nearly had a fit, there was this old timer at a table who I got talking to. He had odd bits and pieces but nothing military related, while talking, the subject came up about my collecting, he said hang on and reached under the table and pulled out a cardboard box, and started to sort through odds and ends, he grabbed something and threw it on the table, I looked and nearly had a heart attack, there in front of me was a dirty looking German side cap, but it was the button on the front that got me, SS and on the left hand side was the SS eagle. I looked inside and it was also marked but very feint, so I could,nt read it, He saw that my jaw had dropped and said "is that any good for you", I nodded, still a bit gobsmacked, He then said "How much do you reckon", I had to be honest with him and gave him a price which I thought it could go for, He said "that was good of you", most would have told me it was,nt worth much, Give me a ton and its yours, I stared at this old boy and asked him if he was sure , he said he was,I told him I would never sell it, which is true. All I had on me was £30 so I gave that to him as deposit while I went down the bank, 20 minutes later I turned up again, he was inside having a cup of tea, there was a woman on his table, He came out looked under the table and said to her" Wheres that old cap that was in the box", She smiled and said "I just sold it, I got £20 for it." Well my legs went weak, and this old boy hit the roof, he called her everything under the sun, She burst into tears, and this old boys face was red as beetroot, He gave me the £30 quid back and said sorry, then shouted at her again and told her how much it was worth, She burst into tears again and ran off, She was one of the nursing staff and did,nt have permission to be on the tables, I reckon someone had seen me with the cap and saw him leave and asked her to have a look under the table, I took my frustration out on my steering Wheel
