  1. You see the difference? On the FB group all hell would have been let loose and a few people banned. Over here, it's much more civil and mature...

  2. Because they're to MCN as a diabetic is to a Sachertorte...as easy as that! They're whiners who joined the FB page for the sake of it but they'd either be banned here fasterthanthis or have absolutely nothing to add to the site! Tcheerz Manu

  3. I'm guessing those are deactivated being in the UK? Here's a Luger I bought for 300 USD, guy told me it was a P-38. I didn't talk too much as it was tight as a drum and looked off the shelf brand new. Just wanted to get it home. Anyway, fully functional, never registered, the only flaw was a near century old finger print on the barrel that had settled in. You can just about see it on the barrel in the third photo.

  4. Here are some photos of an early WW2 second class Iron Cross. These were made using WW1 frames and they are smaller than a standard WW2 Iron Cross. Notice the ribbon has a very distinctive orange central part. The last photo shows a comparison between the "Shinkel Iron Cross" and a standard WW2 produced Iron Cross. (Photo credit for the two different versions together goes to Stewart's Military Antiques) D

  5. Hi All We have just heard that Ofcom have dismissed all the complaints made against World War 2: Battlefield Recovery, the show I was a presenter on that aired on Channel 5 throughout January. This means an awful lot to me. I always knew that neither we nor the producers did anything wrong, but the external regulator has confirmed this and released the following statement..... “We assessed a number of complaints that this series was offensive and disrespectful in its treatment of war graves. We won’t be taking this forward for investigation. “The series dealt effectively with potential audience concerns about the contributors’ methods. It made clear that the specific practices adopted were undertaken within recognised protocols. Scenes that featured human remains were dealt with sensitively, and the contributors appeared visibly moved by their discoveries.” Thanks to all for your support over the past few months. This forum and it's members have always been honest and direct, but at the same time fair and measured in their comments, and I thank you for that. It means a great deal to me to see positive comments about the show, especially from those who watched and enjoyed all four episodes. Kind regards Steve T

  6. I'm thinking of having proper articles/features on the MCN. Similar to what you'd read in a magazine. Members or guests would write an article on a certain subject and it would become part of a series, whether that be an Intro to Militaria collecting, how to spot a fake Badge or whatever. Thoughts?

  7. Here's another "Vet"!This helmet has been repainted in a lighter shade of blaugrau reminiscing of the blaugrun sometimes found on LW equipment. It's been obviously repainted and reissued and the paint it's been mixed with sand and aluminum dust (shining thru).A German friend who only collects FD uniforms and equipment has suggested that chances of this kind of paint being used on "Frontline" helmets are very, very high and in his opinion belonged to a man within a FD fighting in the Lucca/Florence/Arezzo area, where it has been found! It's a crying shame that the eagle has been almost completely gone and that the chinstrap is missing but you cannot have everything, can you? The liner is stamped 56 o one of the fingers while it's stamped 58 inside...a recycled liner perhaps? Cheers Manu

  8. Hey guys! I think his is the place for this but delete if not Lenny. Anywho, I've got about 150-160 original inert grenades I'm wanting to trade for some original pre-Vietnam oirigunal demilled subguns. I don't want to sell outright but am interested in just about any model/make submachine gun. Obviously bound to US transactions. I don't know how many, average priced MP40, Sten, or UZI I might be able to aquure. Maybe as few 1 or 2? Anyway, if someone is looking to get rid one, I've got a considerable collection of inert original hgrs with which to trade. Sorry but keeping all WWI. Here is sample pic of my stuff to give ya an idea on what I'd have to trade Thanks y'all

  9. Hi all Relic hunting and digging in the UK can be very productive, if you know where to look! I do an awful lot of research before setting foot on a site, to improve my chances of finding relics, and to make sure I talk to the right landowner to get permission. The vast majority of the relics I find are general military and domestic items that have a direct link to WW2. Sometimes, just sometimes, I find a relic that can be attributed to WW2 and to the unit that used it. Rarely, very rarely, I find a relic that can be attributed to WW2, to one unit, and to ONE man. The below video shows one such item. Doesn't seem like it was that long ago I found it as it is always clear in my mind, but it got back home......The Relic Watch.

  10. Thank you @Davejb ! These are the helmets I own and I like...straight out if the wood, untouched and with a certain provenance...I don't have many but I'm happy with them! This one is a honest-to-God Lufty lid which has been there and most likely seen action!I left it alone without adding the missing chinstrap! Cheers Manu

  15. Oh yes I have a tendency to ramble on though at times about details @Manu Della Valle and not always appreciated by some but IMO it is a righteous cover...please keep me in mind mate if you ever decide it needs a new home it would be most welcome on my shelf... Regards Mark

  16. That is one cracker of a helmet, with a terrific cover and great liner, it would be great to see the whole helmet uncovered, but I understand a reluctance to remove the cover, but there could be a very good decal hiding under there

  17. Another amazing top shelf lid @Manu Della Valle that I would be quite ecstatic to add to my shelf mate... Regards Mark

  18. I must confess that I've cleaned the outside of the helmet with compressed air because it was covered with fine dust (some of it still remains in the creases of the breadbag strap!) but I had to!Many friends told me that I destroyed the originality of the lid as I did when I cleaned up the blackened LW tropical boots but believe me...it was cvered in whitish,chalk-like dust/old mold...I've been carried away perhaps and should have left some of it ion the helmet but what it's done it's done and there's no use crying over the spilt milk! Cheers Manu

Much the same route followed by a friend of mine, he had a series of programmes on TV about WW2 aircraft crashes, NOT combat tho....and a very good set of programmes they were too...he was "always " into WW2 aircraft crashes, and was doing a talk at a college or some place similar, there was a TV producer in the audience, and he had had chat with Garth...next thing, a test and a TV series...:) BTW, hes a great angler too...:)

  27. Thats a shame but at least you have an alternative, if it had been broken in half, there is a method that I,ve used before but in involves using a micro drill , thin metal strands and a fixing agent, and if it works well there is hardly a trace of being repaired
