  1. Harvey, in theory a good idea provided you are prepared for all the cockwombles that will eventually turn up and start to comment on subjects they know nothing about or the trollers who will try to sell items through your forum and those individuals who just like stirring up trouble, dont forget, this was the reason why MCN was set up, to get away from facebook and all the problems involved on there. But if your happy then go for it, and I hope you do well on there

  2. Woman walks into a doctors surgery. 'What can I do for you today?' asks the doctor. 'You need to look at this' says the woman, swiftly removing her skirt to reveal a piece of lettuce poking up above her knickers 'God gracious!' Says the doctor. 'That doesn't look too good!' 'Pffffff' says the woman 'THAT'S just the tip of the iceburg'. ............. Ba dum dum TISH!

  3. Hi all The conversation went like this............. 'Do you want this?' 'Where did you find that?' 'In my garage. Thought you might like it. Want it?' 'Sure! Want anything for it?' 'Nah.' Can't beat a free Brodie helmet, even if it does have some very strange decals on it The shell itself appears to be completely devoid of any markings, but the liner is dated 1952. Possible it's a WW2 shell with a newer liner, but possibly isn't. Either way, it's a Brodie, and it has joined all my other helmets Almost certainly post war Belgian, but they often used WW2 dated shells so there is a small hope it is WW2 era.

  5. I signed up for the MCN FB page, as I was researching my uncles time in the RAF during WW2, and have always had a great interest in all things military, even as a kid......( never served tho ) and hoped I'd learn a thing or two about the RAF during WW2......and then sort of stumbled onto the MCN website via the FB page.....I didn't really know what to expect, and was a tad anxious, as I thought it was going to be full of experts full of their own importance.....Not a thing of it, it's full of experts yes, BUT, what a cracking bunch....and, since joining 3 months ago , I've been infected.....I'm now a collector!!!!! Nothing fancy, but, it's started...:) The "Field Trip " we had to East Fortune, was one of the best days out at a museum I've had in many a year...and I've been to a few....even on our honeymoon...LOL.....and as @Ham & Jam has already said, I think I've made some great new friends....:) @Lenny and @Bil4338 included..:) ....plus many more I've not yet met, but who have been gracious enough to give up their time and depart their knowledge to me a complete newbie, asking typical newbie questions..:) I honestly cannot remember joining such a happy/friendly place, where the folks are all just interested in their "hobby" or "obsession" call it what you will, and not fighting, and back stabbing...:) Keep up the good work guys, it's working for me...:) BTW, As a wee aside, i spend more time here than on the FB page...:) Just need to get an MCN website app setup now for Android, .so I can spend my 45 min break on it......there isn't one is their...??

  6. A crowded city at a busy bus stop, a beautiful young woman wearing a tight leather skirt was waiting for a bus. As the bus stopped and it was her turn to get on, she became aware that her skirt was too tight to allow her leg to come up to the height of the first step of the bus. Slightly embarrassed and with a quick smile to the bus driver, she reached behind her to unzip her skirt a little, thinking that this would give her enough slack to raise her leg. She tried to again take the step, only to discover that she couldn’t. So, a little more embarrassed, she once again reached behind her to unzip her skirt a little more, and for the second time attempted the step. Once again, much to her embarrassment she could not raise her leg. With a little smile to the driver, she again reached behind to unzip a little more and again was unable to take the step. About this time, a large guy who was standing behind her picked her up easily by the waist and placed her gently on the step of the bus. She went ballistic and turned to the would-be Samaritan and screeched, "How dare you touch my body! I don’t even know who you are!" The guy smiled and drawled, "Well, ma’am, normally I would agree with you, but after you unzipped my fly three times, I kind’a figured we were friends."

  11. I think the reason why this forum works so well, is that we just dont allow "trolls" to infiltrate, gain a foothold then start to insult other members, its pretty easy to Id these people from the start, just by their attitude. I dont think theres even been an incident on here that has lasted any longer than a few minutes with these types of forum trolls before they are monitered and removed. Plus the rules are strictly adhered to but if you notice they are not rammed down peoples throats, a gentle reminder of the expected behaviour on here is all that is needed. Plus the "Risk of closure" feature is a great idea, and I think thats only been used a couple of times and then removed once everything is back on track. The way a forum gains popularity starts from the top and I think everyone will agree that the Admin staff are more than approachable and friendly. Theres never been an argument on here as far as I can see, nor a heated discussion, friendly debate ,yes, and thats the way it will remain. Let all the other forums deal with all the cockwombles and so called "experts" who have proved to be nothing more than trouble makers. We all learn from each other, no-one can say they know it all, because everyday someone learns something new, thats how a forum stays alive and gains in strength.

  12. Here's a magnificent example of what a late-War WH M42 feldbluse looked like in the flesh!I particularly love late-War tunics because they have this forlorn look that makes them very desireable and appealing.much more than the classy tunics made between 1834 and 1941/42,to me at least. This M42 tunic is made of late-War recycled wool nearly identical to the Italian "nettle-cloth",which was made of nettle fibers mixed to recycled or pure wool. The lining is made of tan-gray satin rayon and the Hoheitsadler is neatly factory zig-zag stitched thru the lining like on many late-War tunics. The thread used is the same used to sew on other parts of the tunic and the chest pocket has been sewn in AFTER the insigna. The rear of the collar is made of a similar cloth, instead of the more often encountered green HBT fabric and the butttins are painted blaugrau like on many tunics of the period. It's depot-Stamped E-44 (for Erfurt) and it's in just-issued and barely worn conditions. It comes with its very own, original boards piped green for mountain/light infantry...the green was the same, only darker for armored infantry and administration. We could go on for ages discussing the various greens, but it suffices to take a look at surviving boards still on the tunic to see that a LW(FD) board can be mistaken for an Administration one for example or,even worse, the other way round! Anyway It's a US "Vet BB" which I had eyed many years ago.The owner wouldn't let it go but one day a pal called me on the phone telling me that Bull Sheat had a "nice, newly listed German Tunic" and when I checked the site I found HER!I bought it immadiately and now it's one of my favourite tunics. It looks great with a pair of M44 low boots, matching M43 trousers and Einheitsfeldmutze, web belt and Y-Straps,E.tool in its yellow presstoff carrier and matching RbNr'd K98k Ammo pouches....definitely love it! Cheers Manu

  14. I bought these German binoculars for $50 a couple of years ago. I THINK they are from WW 1 and are artillery observers binoculars but any enlightenment members can provide would be appreciated. There is a range scale in the right side. The optics are great!

  15. Nice gift whatever! Why do I never get these things?!?! Now..... 1...it's not, never was, and never will be, a Brodie...it's a Mk.II...clone, 2...post war, made in Belgium, for the Belgian army, with the dimple on top to make the screwbolt head flush, which its Brit counterpart never had.the roundel has been added from someone's model airplane kit.the flag decal is common to all Belgian postwar helmet shells. 3...it has a complete liner with the often missing crosspad, these usually rot away if stored badly, so really nice to have together. 4...Belgian-made elasticated chinstrap in the British style. all in all a great gift, in fantastic condition.

  26. I will agree that for the most part a majority of the forums that I visit seem to have a strong following of TR collectors ...But the Commonwealth side of collecting has been steadily picking up momentum over the last few years and those items that were once common in the market place are now becoming scarce ,desirable and some down right pricey as per example when I started collecting Canadian WW II era helmets years ago there was very little interest and at any given time you could find dozens for sale in the market place averaging no more than $30-$50 Cdn that has changed in the last few years with the average price now being closer to triple that figure for just a average helmet that the soldier in the field would have been issued...I had the for site to buy just about every unmessed with original example I came upon well knowing that there were only just over one million war time produced..The only way that we can break the stigma that the forum is TR only and not a multi military venue is to keep posting educational and informative threads in the other sections of the forum which in turn will draw in other members that share the same interests as new members will see that there is a good knowledge base that is represented by a strong membership that comments and or shows appreciation for what they have shared..IMO one of the biggest forum killers is the unanswered thread this rings especially true with new members if know one comments why would I want to keep posting there..So yes I do appreciate the frustration of having few replies to one's posts Manny

  27. Many guys who are members over at Facewok are also members of other fora like the Jobbyhouse, aka Merdmacht Awol and the other one led/sponsored by grave robbers that goes by the name of Warrelics! They wouldn't find themselves at home here because being members of two Yakuzafia "Families" they wouldn' be free to express themselves like they do there and get banned in 0,87sec FLAT!Further, they look upon other fora with a smaller number of members because they ythink that theirs is "Da Bigga and Mo' BETTA!" without taking into consideration that Rome wasn't built in a Day and that the sheer number of members can be brought to galactical numbrers in no time! Yet...they post their stuff there and ask for a "Ay" or a "Nae" () never to be seen again!Me...I seldom if ever comment! If you want to read what I think about your M46 Secret Wehrmacht Helmet join the MCN and post ih there! Soapbox kick'd aside! Cheers Manu

  28. Very EXTRA Special" ! I'm 101% into WH and LW stuff and so do the vast majority of members here and on other fora (sorry guys but being "forum" a latin word I use the right plural even if it's been anglicized! ) but that doesn't mean that other Axis or Allied uniforms would be less appreciated,in fact it's good to collect German/Italian/Japanese/French/Commomwealth/US uniforms and stuff but it's even nicer to see what the others used when fighting against your favourite "team"! Me,I LOVE WW2 Commonwealth uniforms (Mainly Canadian ones, of course ) and I particularly like @Mark K 's collection of lids! That said I've got a few radios, telephones etc but, truth be told, photographing them in detail and see no interest whatsoever would be sorta frustrating, even if we're here to share and NOT to show off!I've posted 49 threads on items from my collection so far and I'll post more but it's sad to see that the ones really interested in the stuff are the "usual suspects",and that goes for EVERY facet of the hobby here;a part a couple of very popular items, the rest gets a few replies if any at all! Cheers Manu

  29. If any of you remember the little bottles of Gold Label, that were strong enough to knock you on your back, well as a stupid 18yr old, I used to drink four or five PINTS of that down my local . four bottles would make a decent pint with a bit left over, and it would take me nearly an hour to stagger home, half a mile away!!!!!!!!!!
