  5. I was a moderator on WRF for many years, and a member even longer. Got kicked off when they heard about the TV show. Judged, sentenced and executed, before ANY of them saw it.

  10. Guys, even if the other forums have many thousands of members, most of them are dormant. There's a sweet spot in member numbers, enough to help with advice, but not too many it becomes uncontrollable... I'd like to get our numbers up to that sweet spot.

  11. There is actually a Hood Association here in the UK, there were three survivors, but there was a forth member of the crew who was,nt able to sail due to being transferred shortly before she sailed ,for officer training, and that was Jon Pertwee the actor who played the third Doctor Who on BBC TV. One of my dads second cousins was killed on the Hood, Frederick Bullock,(I think that was his name), he did,nt know him that well but I think other members of dad,s family attended a memorial for him.

  18. ..I've deffo set my mind on not replying to posts in the FB page anymore!I mean, you've got your grandpa's Brodie with German liner or your Stepuncle's Lee Enfield chambered for the 6,5 Italian Ordnance caliber and want to know something about them items?JOIN THE FORUM! I may sound a trifle over the top but I think that playing a deaf ear or three would be a nice idea since the ones who visit the FB page seldom if ever are arsed to come and see what the forum looks like! Cheers Manu

  19. Right, you 'orrible lot! anyone seen anything like these web straps before, and if so, what were they used for? are they rigger adapted normal braces or what? Notice the end caps are not eyeletted but riveted, which makes me think they've been a semi-official adaptation.also the 'normal' eyelets are somewhat flattened out.no ink stamps on them either... thoughts...?

  20. For me these items makes everything more personal! Combat gear, helmets, medals........all can be found in every museum, but items like these make the story personal. Poeple who lived during these days or just after better recall the rations and cigarettes, then what the soldier dressed like. Also nice to see that some brands still excist today and how it suprises people when they see it my collection! Imagine: coca cola would not have been such well known brand if there was no WWII. One of the top members of Coca Cola spoke during WWII that Coca Cola needed to be present to every serving U.S. soldier, no matter were ever in the world. The president kept him on what he said and they provide coca cola all over the world were the GI's fought. Because of that, the brand became also known to the civilians who lived there and what people know is what people want! It formed the base of what is known now! Or something like: How a package of Lucky Strike looks like today. Before 1942 the colors were Green and Red. Because of the green pigments were needed for the war effort, they changed it to white....the design that still stands today. Small items that are WWII, but gives a complete different look on development of products as we know it still today.

  21. Its not an official stamp, its either been scratched on or the case has been resting against something which has transferred the mark to it.

  22. The stencil on the side of a QF cartridge normally gives maker, fill information, lot numbers etcc..... and there is usually a propellent code letter inside a square, etched into the brass with silver nitrate. I have to say I've never seen this mark before and would hazard a guess at either being a manufacturers mark, or possibly an inspection proof stamp. Very unusual!

  23. I hope you realise these are the extremely scarce parade pins, made nice and thick to support the helmet on the heads of all these big Leibstandarte laddies standing smartly to attention all day long on the parade ground. so rare that they're only ever seen with the rarer 4-pad liner made in thick ersatz leather to support the heads of all these big Leibstandarte laddies standing smartly...blah...blah...blah....scarcer than scarce...blah, rare rare rare....blah. Blah

  25. I once wore a NAZIFIED Lufty one at a family party to piss off a few "radical-chics"!Anytime they sat down I casually placed myself in front of them sipping my wine hoping they'd say something but knowing me I'm sure that they'd rather kept it shut than to get a "F u c k you and the horses you rode in on!"

  28. After careful consideration, I decided to get the 1/600 Airfix kit of the HMS Hood, and build it to commemorate the 75th anniversary of her famous engagement with the Bismarck. I chose Airfix because I have my doubts about the quality in Heller's kit, and I've come to mistrust the Trumpeter company and it's obsession with photoech parts, which I hate. I've ordered it on ebay and it should be here in time for my birthday. I hope Airfix is the right choice.

  36. Harvey, as Steve said above, now you know exactly what to say to HIM next time he drones on about punctuation and grammar, and when he goes off into one of his tirades while on a dig, and notice there,s no punctuation in his sentences, its just one long whinge without taking a breath. And he can talk, he thought that Grammar was his mother,s mother at one time !!!!!!!

  40. Awful spelling and grammar as well. Why put a TLA in a sentence and then have to explain what it was? Just don't write a bloody Three Letter Acronym! Tool. And it isn't '......what other opinions are', it is '.......what other's opinions are'. Double tool. It also isn't two full stops after 'words', it should be a comma. Triple tool. And why the hell has he used an apostrophe after the acronym? That would surely make it 'in other words is'. Quadruple tool. And don't get me STARTED on the use of the word 'could' when he should have used 'couldn't' or at a push, 'could not'. What a complete couldn't.
