Here is my 50th (Northumbrian) ID Royal Artillery surveyor in the streets of Bayeux, a Norman town liberated by the 50th ID on 7th June 1944.
I
I drew my inspiration from the following pictures, all taken in early June 1944:
These Tommies had access to the Bayeux public bath house and were photographed on their way to or from the bath house.
The BD blouse itself surfaced in the 1980s on a flea market in Caen (Normandy), so it is very likely it was last worn during the Battle of Normandy and was somehow left behind.
It is badged to a Royal Artillery lance bombardier who was also a surveyor.
It is 1943 dated and the only decoration ribbon worn on it is the 1939-1943 (later 1939-1945) Star, which was worn as early as the second half of 1943.
The BD blouse came complete with its white Royal Artillery lanyard.
