1940 Dated Artillery Lago Made Bone White M40 Tropical Peaked Cap

Hi All,

Here are some photos of my 1940 Lago Berlin made tropical peaked cap and it is about as DAK as you can get. The original owners name is written inside the cap.

These early caps are extremely sort after and the prices are very high right now.  This cap has an early type of tropical cockade and an not often seen smaller size early tropical cap eagle.

You aint the only one Manu, I do love a salty DAK/tropical cap, and this one fits the bill in every form, plus good photography always helps, in particular the showing of the eyelet grommets which are textbook here

Dermot,

I sold mine when I wanted to buy the bl@@dy Kettenkrad and I'll regret that forever! Now I only have one minty cap but its dated 1942 and without soutache!A cracking cap but worth a fraction of yours...and I don't mean in monetary terms!Oh,well..I had decided to focus only on the Italian Campaign, therefore it'll fill the bill just as nicely but I'd give an arm and a leg for an " Afrikaner"!

Hi Manu,

I love Kettenkrad's too:x

The prices are astronomical on early M40 tropical peaked caps now and it is a real shame as even early depot queens sell for big money. I think as collectors we all sell an item and then regret it .....

Hi Dermot,

many years ago I had found this Kettenkrad in Central Italy and the owner was willing to sell it and there was a guy who wanted to purchase many pieces in my collection.I sold him the lot and a few days later the owner of the Kettenkrad changed his mind and kept it.Long story short,I made good money from the sale but the pieces were gone for good!No caps, tunics, trousers and equipment and NO Kettenkrad!:pufff:

Hi @Bil4338,

Based on what I see in your photos your M40 looks good and has an interesting liner, as it looks like two different red colours were used for the construction of the liner.

Can you take some more photos of the liner, inside of the grommets and the underside of the sweatband please?

Can you also take a front on view photo of the tropical eagle please?

The maker is not one I have encountered before, but by 1942 there were so many different clothing factories making them and it would be interesting to try and work out who made it.

The only thing I would do is restore the cockade with an original second pattern one :)

Unless all members tropical caps are going to be posted here your cap deserves to be a separate topic.

I am glad you like it, as it is the only tropical M40 peaked cap I have left.

Hi Bil4338,

Everything is perfect and I love the mixed red liner :)

This site gets 2nd and 3rd pattern Heer tropical cockades fairly regularly and the only problem is they do not come cheap, maybe someone on here can help you find one?

In case you are wondering you can use a second or 3rd pattern tropical cockade on your cap.
