Tre Kronor Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Hello folks! My first post on here and I would like to show you my minty M40 ND helmet. It is a late war produced rear stamped Q66 DN535. Never before in a collection. The previous owner who found it on his grandmother's attic posted this one upp for sale in a buy/sell militaria group on FB luckily for me no one else apparently knew what he had so I got a very good deal. But the helmet had a drawstring on the pics he sent me a little loose but still there, when it arrived the string was no show I guess to a non collector a lost string does not sound like a big deal but I was on him like crazy asking him to trying to find the damn string LOL Anyway here's the helmet! Regards! 3
Davejb Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Very nice helmet with a cracking liner, but the chinstrap has me puzzled, the National Business Number introduced after 1942 and stamped RBnr was the standard marking followed by a number denoting the makers code, yours has RF which I dont recognise as I cannot find it in the listings I have, do you have any details on this

Glad you like it. As I understand it, it stands for Reich Fabrik Nummer instead of the RBNr Reichs Betriebs Nummer This makers straps is stamped like this and as I have read SCHUBERTH-WERK is the maker. If you are a member on the walhalla forum there are plenty of reference straps with this maker code. I include a photo of the buckle for you to see. 1
Davejb Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Thanks for that, I knew that the strap was a genuine one but the number designation puzzled me, Theres no mention of it in all the helmet sites I visited nor my lists, I,ll add it to mine, cheers Dave
DAK D Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Hi @Tre Kronor, Wow that's a super example of an ND Quist M40 thanks for sharing D 1
Major General Bil4338 Posted June 5, 2016 Major General Posted June 5, 2016 Quite superb helmet, lovely liner and chinstrap too.the RF # has puzzled me also, but I came to the conclusion it was a late war variation/update on the RB number. 2

Manu Della Valle Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 The RFNr is 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000% LEGIT! You're welcome @Tre Kronor !The RFNr is but a variation of the RBNr and it just means REICHS FABRIK/FIRMEN NUMMER whereas RBNr means REICH BETREIBS NUMMER...as simple as that! Cheers Manu
DAK D Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 I have seen RB numbered tropical uniform items dated 1942 and the RF number system used on 1943 and 44 uniform items. This is a photo of an 1944 made tropical M40 peaked cap. I owned a 1943 dated RF numbered M40, so there is evidence that the RB/RF codes were really the just the same thing. D 2
Manu Della Valle Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 It's just "Company" under another name! ReichsBETRIEB(Company)Nummer vs. Reichs FABRIK/FIRMA nummer Cheers M
