Todd A. Raffensperger Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 I have wanted to ask this for some time, but afraid that it sounds stupid. What is a British regiment? The more I read about the Battle of the Somme and the units involved, I read how British regiments that the number of battalions per regiment can vary wildly, and a regiment's battalions could be scattered to many different theaters of operation at the same time? There doesn't seem to be any consistent structure to a British regiment. Why is that? 1
HetzersGonnaHetz Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Well a smaller area will have less battalions I think, my local one the Notts and Derby had about 34 battalions in all I think! A battalion was normally between 600-1000 men, maybe a little more 1
Todd A. Raffensperger Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 Thank you, Hetzer. You are the only one who bothered to answer my question. 1
