Very early French grenade - 1890- 1918

Hello to you all,

Just thought you would like to see this very early French hairbrush grenade I have bought from France, used by French soldiers from about 1890/ 1918 up until the end of WW1. Very primitive compared to later grenades invented during WW1.

Very dangerous, as you had to light the fuse by pulling out the nail in the top, inserting it into the hole where the fuse was, and hitting it with a bayonet, stone, etc....they had less than 5 seconds to throw it, and sadly many lost their fingers, hands or it exploded in their faces with terrible injuries...!!!

Thanks for looking...Desert Rat/ Ian
