Royal Irish Rifles Cap badge

I dont know much about British cap badges but it's a new field that I want to get into. I've been kicking this Irish Rifles badge around for ages with out it having a home on a cap. I had acquired this badge less  '41 dated cap from my good friend @DAK D, so I put the badge on it today. But I am wondering if this is the right type of cap for this badge, seems a bit large. Any help or info would be great. Also can anyone suggest some good reference titles on British and Commonwealth  Cap insignia. Thanks!

Thank you @DAK D, the original badge on this cap was "Middlesex".

Cap now has the correct badge. Original badge was misplaced, but now cap is as it should be. 🙂
