Well, I had a stroll around again today, not rushing round as usual but took my break out there and what a day I have had! I now have a Werk Nr from this plane. All of the vegitataion had died down now, we have had a lot of heavy rain as well and stuff is just lying there. I found a heavily rusted armoured plate that has been exposed to the elements  for 70 years but there was a surprise on the reverse!. I was also shocked to find some leather items too. The ear piece from a flying helmet was just there on the ground, I thought it was a dead mushroom! Anyway a picture paints a thousand words!

Just to be clear the picture is not the best but the Werk Nr, is 6269. The first of a batch of 15 aircraft from June 43. Lost Jan 44!

Sadly still can't confirm the three crewmen that were recovered at the time! It is really anoying as the Germans are normally ruthless with records!

The knob thing with the squashed red metal disc is the item hilighted under the star. I understand it to be the emergency disengagement of the auto pilot/navigation thing?

A nice bit today but I can't find it in the cockpit set up?

Luckily the plates were face down and the brunt of the weathering is on the reverse.

A few more bits to follow later,

Rich

Some more bits I would guess are from the cockpit area as the glass I kicked up with my foot and it appears to be within a tight area?

This looks to be some of the laminated 60mm panzer glass from the very front of the conopy.

Guys,

the most interesting and personal item I have found there is this fragment of a hair comb. It is making it even more frustrating not being able to find the crew. I have one avenue left that is the local pastor that holds the grave records for Bergen. I have seen extracts from them that relate to allied airmen recovered from Bergen and buried in Becklingen Commonwealth Graves site. I hope to crack this, this year!

Guys, been poking around again and I don't beleive how luck I have been with this.

It basically confirms it is a 110 but the Werk Nr is different but still from Braunschweig?

It is a small plate but it seems to have carried the required data?
