Can anyone identify this ships equipment

Hi hoping someone can shed some light on this item believed to be ww2 ..it was dragged up in a fishing boat net some years ago ..i had to take sneaky pics as an old guy had it at the back of his shed and was a bit economical with who he wants to share it with 👍

it’s over five feet tall and solid brass or gunmetal.

It kind of looks military as it has no obvious purpose and that is often a clue in itself?

It could also be nothing to do with the military at all I suppose?
