Considering the size of it, it is very heavy. Is it going to blow us to kingdom come?

It just look like a old lump of corroded iron or steel..

Well according to what you have said, about it being very heavy, I suspect that you have picket this thing up, which was a rash move on your part, as you are unsure as to what it is, If you feel that it (could be) something dangerous, then it may be worth calling the police in, but be warned that may also lead to EOD getting called in as the police are not expert in this and they will err on the side of safety
