Tamiya RC Tiger?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I have the Tamiya King Tiger, bought it as a project for me and my son to build.

They are not cheap around the £500 mark that was about 7 years ago.

But well worth the money. Took a few weeks to build, plenty of parts just like a giant airfix kit but better :)

Sounds of the engine, turret, gun, machine gun, turret traverse are excellent.

At the time mine came without the metal tracks, so there is a bit of play in the tracks and dependent on the surface can be a bit jerky turning.

There are plenty of upgrades available, smoke generators for the exhausts, improved suspension kits, tracks etc, just depends on how deep your pockets are.

Nice kits but why not go for the really big ones, 1 12th RC, only £20,000, but you do get the figures as well lol, I have a 1 16th all metal Tiger, got it in weekly parts from Hatchette , only cost me £700 all told, still not added decals yet

I had a hard enough explaining to the misses, why I spent that amount on a box of bits (her words) lol

Ok two Tigers in the garden, thats just plain greedy, I think I,ll buy the full size replica the Russian guys built,Its a exact copy which moves great, sounds the dogs mahoonies, and fires pyros from the main gun and blanks from the MG, Its only 350,000 euros, which is dirt cheap, I might even buy the King Tiger they were thinking of building, imagine taking that out down the road for a loaf of bread and pint of milk

Tamiya has put out some great kits with excellent detail. a nice looking paint job. i have seen on the net kits of tanks and planes a long with others where the builder was like an artist right down to the last detail. when finished the realism is uncanny. and those two in the yard-----------COOL.

The main problem with Tamiya is the cost, there are other very good kits out there and some better than Tamiya and cost less. I build a large number of kits and its how you build that makes a kit

Still havent gotten one? I had a big RC Panther, wasnt Tamiya though. Was pretty cool fired yellow plastic BBs. Kinda wish I still had it. But I remember these RC kits from Tamiya, well. Always wanted one.

I may have found a prebuilt, customised, painted and weathered version. ;)

A guy on a RC tank forum, builds and then after a few years moves them on to fund new projects. They are absolutely amazing...
